Back by popular demand….Join us for a special Yin Yoga class with guest teacher Barb Duncan! Yin Yoga focuses on the connective tissues (ligaments, fascia, and joints) of the body, which are generally not targeted in most yoga classes. Therefore, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the more familiar dynamic and muscular (Yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat and lengthening/contracting of the muscles. Yin Yoga is best practiced in a normal to cool temperature room. This class is great for athletes and yogis of ALL levels. Poses are done on the floor and can be held from 1-20 minutes (we will hold most of them around 5 minutes each).
Barbara Duncan, Professor Emeritus from Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio, has been teaching yoga since 2009. After many years of practicing yoga, she earned her 500-hour RYT from YogaFit, finishing her 500-hour teacher training in India. She then earned an additional 200-hour-RYT from Go Yoga in Columbus, OH. Barbara earned a specialized 100-hour certification to work with athletes using yoga. She has completed Reiki I and II coursework and attunements. She has taken yin yoga teacher training with Josh Summers (Boston, MA) and restorative yoga training from Judith Lasater ( San Francisco, CA). She is currently working towards a certification to teach trauma-sensitive yoga. Barbara teaches strong, slow flow classes and restorative yoga to the general public at various venues. She also teaches yoga classes at Shawnee State University. She shares yoga with special populations including high school and college athletes, a professional athlete, women who are recovering from drug addiction, cancer patients and survivors, women’s groups at her church and groups who require a chair in order to practice yoga. As a lifelong learner, Barbara continues to take yoga courses and workshops for personal and professional growth and enrichment. Her passion is sharing the life-changing beauty of yoga with others.
